Kennon SSPD
Kennon created the original Soft-Sided Suicide Prevention Door (SSPD) in 2009 in conjunction with the Veterans Administration, transforming behavioral health units from potentially dangerous settings to safe environments for patients. The durable and long-lasting Kennon SSPD has a foam core and easy-to-clean cover.
Build Your DoorDesign
Original SSPD design. SSPD design resists fire and water, making it perfect for bathroom and shower use. We make the Original SSPD to match your facility, with a photo or graphic image on one side (only the Kennon Door 2.0 has images on both sides). While other doors may require professional installers and leave behind potential ligature points, facility staff can install the Kennon Original SSPD in a second.
Easy Install
It will install in seconds, attaching with magnets* that will “break away” with minimal pressure. They are custom-fitted for any door frame up to 75” wide.
* For non-steel frame doors, we offer flush-mount steel attachment plates.
Certified
Kennon makes both Door 2.0 and our Original SSPD in the USA. Both doors are rated ASTM E84 Class A for fire safety. Door 2.0 is also NFPA-286 Certified, and a version of the door has also been recommended in the New York State Office of Mental Health 2023 Patient Safety Standards Guidelines.
